Around the mid 80's, the band Kafka was active in the post punk period in Brazilian alternative Rock scene. Along with Fabio Golfetti´s Violeta de Outono, these were important bands playing and bringing new musical elements and influences to the POP music in São Paulo. Kafka did two discs, one called “Musikanervosa” and the last one, “Obra dos Sonhos”, both released under Barato´s Afins Label.
These bands seemed to have some aesthetic connections, probably due to Renato and Fabio childhood and musical training.
During 1993-1994 the Invisible Opera (Tropical Version) did many recordings, some were released under the name Glissando Spirit and some remained unreleased until now. The brainchild was Fabio Golfetti and Renato Mello, who together with the drummer Claudio Souza formed a trio that performed live, mixing electronic programming and live sounds.
Due to a Fabio’s initiative, these songs were revisited and shown to be very attractive material, ready to be released under a new approach with real and young musicians, giving birth to a new project called The Frame Of Life (a citation from Frank Lloyd’s architectural definition) The new recordings took place with the guys from Stratus Luna, who brought fresh air to the songs and fitted perfectly with the new desired spirit.
In this record, the band assumes and incorporates its natural influences, like Soft Machine’s Elton Dean, Mike Ratledge, Robert Wyatt, Coltrane, Sun Ra, Miles, Terje Rypdal, Caravan and the Old Pink Floyd, Hatfield & the North and of course, Daevid Allen’s Gong. The ambience of most songs remains to the old ECM records, like a classic live capture of drums, bass and piano..
The songs were all conceived like free imaginary scenic landscape views, with plenty of action going on with musicians listening to the stories being told by the sax voices, making them interfere as if were moving in that scenery, from the point A to point B. A real sound trip expedition.
